Magnetic Personalities!
As we get ready to go join the rest of the HOOTERS! at HOOT. We have been finishing up some great projects. One of them had a very Magnetic Personality. It was a Childrens art Center. We used Magnetic Chalk Board Paint for the whole background and mounted a pad of paper for grandkids to fingerpaint at and plate shelves for Grandma to display her favorite nicknacks up and out of reach.
There has been alot of talk about the ads for this Magnetic Chalkboard paint. But where do you find it, is it dangerous for kids? How does it work? Hmmm...well now I know the answers...Come a little closer and I'll share the nitty griities....First of all you find it at Michaels or other craft stores Not at the regular paint shops. Buy the primer and the top coat when you get it. The paint is not harmful because it is really just iron filings mixed into a medium...ie paint. I do wonder if it will rust in our goofy rainy weather here in Oregon. And This stuff Works!!!! the magnets actually stick! My Husband applied this to the Chalkboard surface , his report is they recommend a sponge brush for applying But said two of his broke right off and he had a large area to cover! He got some cheap rollers and applied it that way, I think it was a little bumpy although in test chalking it erased fine. Maybe a sponge roller instead? hmmm It is an oil based product so dry times were longer and it needed to cure before it was okay to Chalk on. All in all a very Cool product. Ted swears he is going to make his own next time by mixing Iron filings into black oil paint. That should make for an intersting article too...Why , you may ask would you make your own? Well at a cool $30 for a pint of the primer and base it is very spendy!
Well off to HOOT and I hope and pray I don't have any interesting Travel stories to tell....
Happy Painting!
Patty
